An excerpt from the Southern Paranormal Gazette: “You would expect a sleepy college town to be enjoying the lull in student activity over spring break. However the university in Brimstone, TX is once again a nexus of calamity. A graduate student and faculty member were “officially” killed within the bowels of the Anthropology department in a freak accident from an overheated freezer unit and resulting damage to a steam pipe. What official reports fail to disclose was that both were studying a mummified body. Our astute staff have been able to wrangle up information that ancient human remains, possibly sacrificed to pagan gods, was found in Nepal weeks before and those very remains were shipped to the university for further study.
Further, another faculty member along with a student and other town citizens were in the building that same night. Rumors abound that some of the group were armed. What could they be doing snooping around after hours only to have the police arrive later and stumble upon two corpses? Were they involved in some diabolical ritual? Or maybe they discovered something else was dug up in the Nepalese glacier. Rest assured readers, our staff at the Southern Paranormal Gazette will be looking further into this horrible scene of campus carnage.
…But members of the Brimstone Public Library Book Club know the real tale. Oscar Garcia and Prof. Prof. Lorena Metcalfe were victims to supernatural creatures that were dormant in the mummified remains being thawed out for analysis at the Anthropology department holdings. A joint project with Dean Henry Banks, Prof. Metcalfe from the Biology department was keen to research the botanical plants used to preserve the body. Once the worm creatures thawed, hatched, and fed on poor Oscar, she became fascinated with their life cycle and wanted to study them further. Slipping into a kind of madness, Prof. Metcalfe sought to make some of the book club members hosts to the worm monsters.
The group was able to finally destroy the worms, but unfortunately added Prof. Metcalfe to the list of victims in the process. Tensions were high once the local police arrived. Dean Banks, unofficially aided by Prof. Jacob Held, altered paperwork to ease customs restrictions in order to get the mummified corpse into the country. This added to the scandal of the terrible accident that befell his student, resulting in Dean Banks soon afterwards being forced into a sudden retirement. And the professional nemesis of Brian Campbell, Prof. Jacob Held, was promoted to interim dean of Anthropology. Regardless, the creatures were slain and the town denizens safe...at least for now.
